Navigating Cape Town: Your Guide to Safe, Efficient, and Eco-Friendly Transport

Navigating Cape Town: Your Guide to Safe, Efficient, and Eco-Friendly Transport

By Ricardo Nobangela

Navigating Cape Town’s transport system became second nature to me when I was growing up in Khayelitsha. I still remember the early mornings, catching a minibus taxi into town alongside fellow commuters, each with their own stories and destinations. These daily rides taught me a lot about the city—not just its layout but its transport issues, and the resilience that makes Cape Town what it is. Watching the city evolve and the transport system grow has been inspiring, and it’s what drives my passion as an urban planner to make commuting in Cape Town a safe, efficient, and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Welcome to the first blog of a series on all things transportation in Cape Town! I’m Ricardo Nobangela, an urban planner/urbanist passionate about making it easier for visitors and residents to explore this vibrant city. From the bustling city centre to stunning Chapman’s Peak Drive (a scenic coastal route), Cape Town has various transportation options, each suited to different needs and preferences. Whether you’re interested in the cheapest way to get around or looking to reduce your carbon footprint, this guide will help you navigate the Mother City effortlessly and safely.
